Big flaky dandruff

As for your big flaky dandruff issue, this is due to excessive yeast  on the scalp that causes inflammation of the hair follicles leading to dryness and large flaking of the scalp. I highly suggest medicated shampoos for this along with a scalp brush to massage and  loosen the flakes. I like Neutrogena T-Sal shampoo that has salicylic acid that helps to free up some of the scales. You can then use your fav shampoo after that to help get the remaining from your hair.. The next time you shampoo, use a different type such as Nizoral, Head & Shoulders, for example. This regime should help with the flakes as well as some of the bumps on your scalp. If this is not effective, please follow-up with your dermatologist. I hope this helps!

Hi Dr. Maclin,
Thanks for answering this question. I have the same issue and when I go to my loctician, she shampoos my hair with Neutragena shampoo(coal tar 2%). But I don't think she's leaving it on long enough for full effect. Also, is "Scalpacin" a good product for itchiness. You had mentioned a hydrocortizone cream in another blog entry, but is there a cream specifically for the scalp that's over the counter?
Thanks alot for this helpful blog.

Hello Dr.Maclin.

I suffer from in-grown hairs on my chin and I have permanent scarring from tweezing them out. The scarring draws a lot of attention to my chin area. I have used at least four different fading creams and they dont seem to work. What can I use to minimize the blemishes? I'm
getting discouraged.
