Dandruff at 35 years old

I have problems w/this also...and I've tried the T-gel shampoo, but this has not relieved the problem, where I only need it once a mnth. What causes this, because I did not have this issue in highschool or college years. I have been dealing with this over the last 8yrs. I am 35.

 Hi GG,

Dandruff or Seborrheic Dermatitis is an extremely common condition no matter what the age. It is caused by a yeast that builds up on the scalp causing inflammation of the hair follicles and dryness, itching and scaling of the scalp. Many times, if one does not wash their hair at least once a week and get hair product build up, it can  result in this issue. Because you can lose the effectiveness of one medicated shampoo, I prefer for you to switch up but it is very critical to leave on the scalp for at least 30 minutes before washing out to allow for active ingredients to absord into the scalp. You can then wash hair again with your favorite moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.  For itchy areas, you can apply some Hydrocortisone ointment over the counter twice a day. Do this process weekly until under control then once a month...Remember to always switch to different types of medicated shampoos. I am quite sure with this regime you will be dandruff-controlled!!!
